It affects males and females equally and affects 2% of the population and ususally develops in patients under the age of 35 years. Psoriasis most commonly appears on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. It can also affect the palms of the hands, soles of the feet but can appear on any part of the body. Psoriasis can be very distressing and can lead to low self-esteem, a reluctance to socialise and difficulties in forming relationships.
