Rosacea

Dr. Goldstraw offers diagnosis and effective treatment for Rosacea.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects the face which typically causes one or more of the following symptoms: persistent redness of the cheeks, excess flushing, red spots and pustules.

Rosacea can also cause the eyes to become red, irritated and watery and a swollen nose called rhinophyma.

The exact cause of rosacea is unknown but is more common in people who have a family history of the condition. There is no connection between excessive alcohol intake and roscaea. It is more common in middle-aged adults and in fair-skinned people. Some people with rosacea have sensitive skin and find many topical preparations sting.

There are lots of treatments including:

  • Avoidance of triggers such as alcohol and spicy foods
  • Regular high factor sunscreen
  • Topical (treatments applied directly to the skin) and oral antibitoics (tablet medication)  and isotretinoin (roacutane)– can help with the red spots and pustules
  • Topical brimonidine (Mivarso) and tablet medications to help with facial redness

Laser treatment for facial redness. Dr Goldstraw does not carry out laser treatments but can refer you to a highly recommended Dermatologist who specialises in laser treatment if needed.

Rosacea can be a frustrating and embarrassing condition, but there are treatments available that can help to control the symptoms. Dr Naomi Goldstraw can ensure you have the correct diagnosis and help you decide what the best treatment options are for you. There is no need to get a referral from your GP and you can contact Dr Goldstraw's secretary direct.
