Skin Cancer

Dr. Goldstraw offers diagnosis and effective treatment for Skin Cancer.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. There are two types; non melanoma skin cancer and melaoma skin cancer.

Non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is the most common type of skin cancer, accounting for around 95% of all skin cancers in the UK and consists mainly of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, but it is also the least common, accounting for around 5% of all skin cancers in the UK.

Skin cancer can be caused by a number of factors, including:

  • Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds
  • Genetics: People who have a family history of skin cancer are more likely to develop it themselves.
  • Certain medical conditions including patients who are immunosuppressed or transplant patients.

The symptoms of skin cancer can vary depending on the type of skin cancer. Some common symptoms include:

  • A new growth on the skin that does not heal
  • A change in the size, shape, or color of a mole
  • Itching or bleeding of a mole
  • A scaly, red patch on the skin that does not go away

If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away. Early detection and treatment are important for the best possible outcome.

If you are diagnosed with skin cancer, the type of treatment that you will receive will depend on the type of skin cancer, the size of the tumor, and the location of the tumor.
